Accommodation Information – Bits and pieces worth having a look at

S’Algar is a purpose-built urbanisation and has much to offer. The resort is tranquil with some year-round residents, which affords its air of relaxation. If you are looking for your own little place in the sun, have a look at HomeMenorca for some inspiration.

There is a good choice of rental accommodation in Salgar, offering two (4*) hotels, several apartment complexes for holidaymakers and also several private villas (of varying size) and apartments for rental. Therefore, if you prefer to go with a private villa rental, have a look, for example at MenorcaVillas.

Below, you will find the prices and information for each of the hotels and apartment complexes in Salgar. We will be happy to assist you with your booking.

More about all sorts…

For accommodation, you can often get a great deal with a holiday package (flight and accommodation) via a tour operator that deals with the Port Blue Resort in Salgar itself or you may as well consider accommodation in Alcaufar, Punta Prima or San Luis (Sant Lluis) – all three within a short driving distance from Salgar. We’ll be happy to come and pick you up at your accommodation, should you not have your own transport. Alternatively, just get your flight, and we’ll book your accommodation for you in the hotel or apartment complex of your choice. However – on short notice – this may be difficult during peak season (July and August). Tour operators might have special offers or good deals. Check out our price list for accommodation available to us (at the bottom of this page), and if you find it better priced online or with a tour operator, go for it!

The weather in Menorca | Our Season

Menorca is ¨open¨ from May until the end of October with July and August being the high season – see the temperature chart for water and air averages. The weather (chart at the bottom of this page) in May and October is often beautiful but visitors at these times should be prepared for all kinds of weather variations. Although, of late, the sea in low season has been flat as a pancake. In any case, bad weather, rain, clouds or storms don´t hang about for long as we don´t have any mountains, so even if you get a cloudy morning, by midday it might be hot and sunny again. July and August are warm, if not to say very warm and humid. The predominant and often strong wind is called Tramontana and comes from the north. For us, that is a good thing, as we are in the south and often can dive when the north side is just too rough for it.

Food and Drink

The closest town is San Lluis (Sant Lluis) and is good for basic shopping, with supermarkets, a pharmacy, tobacconist, dentist, petrol station and more than a few tapas bars. Our favourite is a gorgeous gastro bar called Clementina. A must visit if you are in town!

The capital of Menorca is Mahon (Maó) and is only 9 km away (15 minutes drive). This is superb for shopping and sightseeing both in the town and in the port. The Port of Mahon is the second largest natural harbour in the world after Pearl Harbour. A stroll along this never-ending quayside is great for working up an appetite and trying out any of the many restaurants and bars that you´ll pass on your way.

A three-course meal, including wine and water, can be found from €12 per person. A bottle of beer (draught lager/bitter is also available) is around €3,50. You will find it all, the cheap and cheerful and the more upmarket options. I would advise to try out any restaurants and bars that seem to have a lot of Spanish looking people in there 🙂

Transfers a la carte

If you would like to have your own personal transfer, be it from and to the Airport or for any other occasion, have a look at Solhop.

Car Hire

Car hire is widely available and is much less expensive out of peak season (July & August). You will need your driving licence, credit card, and passport.

Unless you are on a total unwind and dive only holiday, it is highly advisable to rent a car and have a drive around the island. Menorca has a lot to offer, and every town and village has its flair with fantastic restaurants in the most hidden corners. You will find beaches everywhere, and not one looks like the other. We have more beaches on this little island, then the rest of the Balearics combined! Or so they say.

I dare say, Menorca will not disappoint you 🙂
